This election marks the end of my time as Returning Officer. Chapter has approved the appointment of Garry Ward as my successor. The handover, in the next few weeks, will result in email to the special email addresses (returningofficer@tssf.org.uk and vote@tssf.org.uk) being redirected to Garry instead of me.

October 2016: Call for nominations, Minister Provincial – closing date 6th December.

I know this call should have come with more time to reflect and not till next year, but Averil Swanton decided, and reported to Chapter on October 14-15 past, that there were good reasons for a handover of the office of Minister Provincial by June next year. See the document, “Timing of election of new Minister Provincial 3.docx”

All Professed Tertiaries in the Province are invited prayerfully to consider whether this is a call they should answer, or perhaps whether they can think of a fellow-Tertiary they would encourage to offer to serve the Order in this extremely important role.

The following documents are available here and have been sent to Area Teams:

If there is more than one person nominated, voting papers will be sent to Areas as soon as I can manage after 6th December and voting will close on Tuesday 17th January 2017 – with the elected candidate expected to attend Chapter on 9th-11th February and on 15th-17th June for the handover process and to take up office with Chapter’s blessing on 17th June.

Chris Petrie, Returning Officer, 25th October 2016

Note that voting for Provincial Secretary has not closed yet

September 2016: Election of a Provincial Secretary – closing date 5th November.

There are two candidates for election to the post of Provincial Secretary and Trustee for the European Province of TSSF. All Professed Tertiaries in the Province are eligible to vote and are urged prayerfully to consider the choice and cast their vote before Saturday, 5th November.

The following documents are available here and have been sent to Area Teams [LARGE PRINT versions are now also available – see below]:

In addition, the voting  paper in an alternative format (PDF) and the informal note on the role of Provincial Secretary that was sent out with the call for nominations are available here:

Any questions should be addressed to me (as returning officer).

July 2016: New calls for nominations – act by 19th August.

Provincial Chapter needs a new Provincial Secretary and one new Link Tertiary by October. Details below.

Update on timing: A few days after sending out the documents below, I sent:

In response to concerns expressed about the short timescale set in the call for nominations for Provincial Secretary, and after consultation with the Minister Provincial and Provincial Secretary, I offer the following relaxation of the timing, which allows an extra 2 weeks at most, IF REQUESTED.

The extra time is offered to any prospective candidate to complete discernment about actually standing for office, preparing an electoral address, collecting all the details requested on the nomination form (for candidate, proposer and seconder) and a supporting statement from the proposer. All these must be received in electronic form by the returning officer within 2 weeks of the announced closing date.

IN ORDER TO HAVE THIS EXTRA TIME, the prospective candidate MUST let the returning Officer (me) know of her/his intention by the announced closing date of 19th August.

This means that by 19th August I should know roughly when I shall be able to issue voting papers and shall inform you (all Areas). Obviously, if there are no requests for extra time, I shall be able to issue voting papers sooner than early September.

At least 4 weeks will be allowed for voting.

Please let anyone, who may be considering offering this service to the Order, know about the extra time on offer.

19th July 2016

Provincial Secretary:

Howard McFadyen comes to the end of his 6-year period of office in February 2017 and Chapter wishes to have a successor in place by October 2016 to commence the handover.

Therefore nominations are sought from professed Tertiaries for this important role in TSSF. The timetable is that notice of intended nominations will be accepted until Friday, 19th August – at least an email must arrive by that date. If there is more than one nomination, an election will be held, with voting papers sent to Areas, possibly by 29th August and a closing date of 30th September.

The following documents are available here and have been sent to Area Teams:

Any questions should be addressed to me (as returning officer) or to Howard.
